Articles on: How your receptionist answers

Name and voice

Your receptionist has a voice and a name, and both are yours to choose. Go to Settings, then Personality.

Name

Under Name and voice, type the Name your receptionist introduces itself with. Leave it blank and it uses the name of the voice you've picked, so a male voice never answers under a female name.

As you type, Callers hear shows your real greeting with the name in place, so you see how the opener will land. The name saves when you move on from the field. The wording of the greeting itself is ours to set: if you'd like it worded differently, message us.

Voice

Under your name is the voice callers hear now; tap its play button to hear your greeting in it. To pick another, tap Change voice. The voices open over the page, grouped by region: Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland, each with an accent label (Glaswegian, Southern, Manchester, Cockney and so on). Tap the play button on any row to hear a sample, pick the one that suits your business, and close the list. The default is a Scottish voice. Every voice speaks English: the region and the label tell you its accent.

Your pick saves the moment you make it, and takes effect on the next call. Nothing else changes: your greeting, common questions and everything else stay as they are.

Pronunciation

If callers hear your receptionist trip over a word (a place name, a product, a trade term like "MCB"), add it under Pronunciation. Enter the word, then how it sounds (for example "em-see-bee"), and your receptionist says it that way from the next call onwards.

Write the spelling the way you would read it out loud, with hyphens or spaces between the sounds. Your receptionist says that spelling in place of the word.

One word per row. If a name has two words, give each its own row: a row whose word has a space in it is saved but not spoken, and the screen tells you which ones those are.

Saving

Everything on this page saves itself, and the top of the page says Saved once it has. The one exception is Rules at the foot of the page, which has its own Save rules button: see Rules. A pronunciation row saves when you move on from it. If you came here from the setup checklist, tap Done to tick the step off.
